Having worked in the vocational rehabilitation space for many years, in many different settings, I have witnessed incredible change in our industry. I hope I can also say that I have been part of that positive change. Today, I want to use this post to reflect on the evolution of rehab, and especially, comment on the fact that some of us still seem to be stuck in the dark ages. I conceptualise rehabilitation in 5 different stages. Have a read and let me know - which aspects do you identify … [Read more...]
Discrimination to Opportunity – The Future for Disabled Job Seekers?
Reading a report recently from Deloitte, I was very interested to read that because of a predicted shift in the way that individuals want to work (demand to work) and the massive shift towards the digital age and icloud data that determines that they (the workers) can work anywhere that the Australian work market won’t suffer from a lack of jobs, but from a lack of workers if they do not keep up with the change quickly. Australia’s new workers will not only have a new demographic profile, … [Read more...]
Workplace of the Future – How do you see it?
Like many, I think that the workplace of the future will be much different than it is at the moment, and those changes will be driven by the attitude of the workers themselves. In fact, the nature of work will alter too. It is said that in the future, power will be held by individuals, not by institutions – we ourselves will be the ones coming up with the big ideas and have the ability to use or share them as we best see fit. We no longer will be being paid for our time in the office, but for … [Read more...]

The Hidden Job Market is a Bunch of BS
http://wthomsonjr.com/august-2013/the-hidden-job-market-is-a-bunch-of-bs/ There has been a lot written about the job market lately. “The good jobs” aren’t posted anymore. Don’t apply to jobs on the Internet! Don’t bother putting your resume in an Applicant Tracking system. It will go into a “black hole”. As an advisor and a consultant, I want to tell you to NOT listen to these so called “job experts”. A friend of mine, and well -known HR expert, Doug Whatley, and I were having a … [Read more...]

Survey shows stress to be a common reason for sick leave

The Government's sick note scheme, renamed the fit note in April 2010, was designed to help employees return to work more quickly by suggesting things they could do at work. Doctors are required to detail which duties … [Read more...]
