You may be aware that I’ve had a Masters Rehabilitation Counselling student working alongside us at Purple Co. Its been a fantastic experience and I really enjoy imparting into the next generation of rehabilitation professionals. I asked our student to reflect on the Bio Psych Social Model of rehabilitation, to impart what she has learned in theory to what she has observed, witnessed and experience on placement. Her response is really insightful and one that I would recommend anyone interested … [Read more...]
Fatigue: It’s time to take a different approach
Fatigue is a really big problem. A really big problem. It’s a problem, because we don’t seem to be talking about it in a way that is useful and helpful to the prevalence of people who live with fatigue each day. (A conservative estimate puts the number of people in Australia with chronic fatigue disorder at 180,000.) Treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome presents a significant challenge to people with CFS and their healthcare practitioners. A client will say ‘I can’t because I am too fatigued’, a … [Read more...]
When assisting people with ‘severe’ injuries get a new job… sometimes client’s really do know best
I am often in awe of the client’s we serve at Purple Co. People who have experienced forced change in ways that you and I may never experience, yet there is this desire to move beyond circumstances and into a new future. That new futures is quite often very different to the future they had envisioned prior to injury, illness and disability. I am not writing this piece to expound how inspiring clients are. How thinking, “How Can We”, instead of “I Can’t” gave a client back their earning capacity.
You would know by now that I Jo, am very proud of the Purple Co team. This case study has been prepared with Susanne Richards OT, who has achieved incredible results with clients. This particular example whoever I think beautifully illustrates how simple problem solving can be, and how BIG a difference a well-coordinated and planned out program can make in a short space of time. Many people need some stress to optimise … [Read more...]
Unemployed does not mean unemployable!

This year Purple Co have had the opportunity to complete two fairly large labour market analysis projects on behalf of a Reinsurer. The purpose of these analyses was to identify where particular skill-sets may be able to be transferred within the open labour force. This research has highlighted some key findings for us about the nature of the labour force and the labour market in Australia at this … [Read more...]

Workplace of the Future?
If you are like me, you are becoming increasingly aware of the changes to our workplace, our workforces our work lives. While technology continues to be a strong driving force for a lot of change, it’s becoming an economic reality for so many people to remain in the workforce before the traditionally considered age of 65 years, that being “retirement age”. Economic pressure appears to be creating a need rather than a want for people to remain in the paid workforce. Although I have met … [Read more...]
